English Vocabulary (Word choice) part 01

1. Inclement (weather)

Despite having inclement weather, we were able to escape from the area.

2. Deliriously (happy)

Unlike a lot of my classmates, I become deliriously happy when I find an opportunity of helping people who are in miserable conditions.

3. Aggravate (Making a situation worse)

Shifting many people to public transport will certainly aggravate the pollution unless it is carefully handled by the authority concerned.

4. Round-the-clock (Lasting or happening all the time)

Many people, the world over, prefer to use their private vehicles since it provides them round-the-clock, mobility, safety, and comfort.

5. Manifold (Many/of different kinds)

It is lucid that the positive aspects of Padma Bridge are manifold and it will be an inevitable part of our economy.

6. Multifaceted (Having different aspects to be considered)

The future possibilities of computers are multifaceted which prompts many people to think that the government should spend as much money as possible on either developing computer technology or purchasing it.

7. Astronomically (prices)

People can hardly understand that buying a computer needs astronomically huge sums of money.

8. Affluent (Society/people)

This notion is commendable in affluent society inasmuch as it moulds the best of brains.

9. Picturesque (place)

We had a blissfully happy holiday in a picturesque little village surrounded by spectacular mountains.

10. Impart (knowledge/wisdom)

The old man seldom got recognition from society albeit he spent most of his life imparting knowledge to the poor people.

11. Disseminate (information)

Disseminating information on climate change seems unlikely popular in poor countries as there is a dearth of resources.

12. Professed

He professed ignorance of the dent to her car but I think he was lying.

13. Daunting (task/activity)

If you had failed to narrow the list down to just one person, you would have found it one of the daunting tasks.

14. Dissenting (voice/group/opinion)

When it comes to the vote, there was only one dissenting voice and it will not be taken into account.

15. A spate of (attack/theft)

It is highly likely that you may face some spate of attack in many parts of the city, especially at night.

16. Breach of the law/Infringe the regulation/ flout the law

Many people who flout the law and order and push the country into a chaotic situation will be strictly handled.

17. Curb (inflation)/Rampant inflation

The present government undertook a lot of measures to curb inflation whilst the rampant inflation was a common phenomenon in the tenure previous government.

18. Levy (tax)

The taxes that we levy allow us to allocate resources to achieve the millennium development goal.

19. Draconian measures/Riots (erupts/ broke out not spreads)

When riots erupt and public disorder threatens the social fabric, politicians tend to take draconian measures.

20. Frontiers

Scientists and technologists are pushing back the frontiers of knowledge every day since the beginning of human civilization.
